The Joint Commission sets the standards by which health care quality is measured in America and around the world and evaluates the quality and safety of care for more than 18,000 health care organizations.

In 2018 LightBridge Hospice was also awarded the Joint Commission Certification of distinction as a Community-Based Palliative Care program.

Palliative Care is the comprehensive treatment of the discomfort, symptoms and stress that may occur with a serious illness or injury.  The primary purpose of palliative care is to prevent or relieve the pain and suffering a patient may be experiencing, and at the same time improve his or her quality of life. It can be an excellent choice for patients and their families who are not quite ready, for a variety of reasons, to elect hospice care.

Dementia is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. This program involves training for all of the staff and volunteers to become dementia specialists, who are then able to provide the best care possible for hospice patients with dementia.

Music touches us in special ways; it is frequently accessible to those who are in severe decline when all other forms of communication have gone.  Music offers the opportunity for expression, connection, and relief from pain and anxiety. A unique feature of the LightBridge Music Therapy program is that care includes a variety of music specifically selected for patients with dementia, which has been shown to relieve pain and provide inner relaxation at the time of passing.

LightBridge has certified therapy dogs and makes visits to patients easing their pain, decreasing their stress, and sometimes even lowering their blood pressure. Pet therapy has been shown to decrease agitation and improve social behaviors in patients with Dementia.

They demonstrate this commitment through a specially trained team of staff and volunteers which has achieved the prestigious Partner Level IV status of the nationally acclaimed We Honor Veterans program – one of the initial hospices in the nation to do so and the first in California.

Ohr Ami, the Hebrew phrase that means “Light of My People,” is the name of The Jewish Hospice Program. We are pleased to be the first hospice program in San Diego County specifically dedicated to the end of life needs and concerns of the Jewish community. Ohr Ami San Diego is a Jewish Hospice Program providing services that are rooted in an understanding and appreciation of Judaism and Jewish life. We are blessed to have a rabbi who provides the spiritual care for each patient and serves as the Rabbinic Director of the program. Our professional team has been educated in the religious traditions and culture of Judaism and the Jewish people. They are familiar with the unique needs and concerns of Jewish patients and their families, and are appreciative of and sensitive to the diversity of Jewish expression within the Jewish community.
